Extentia organized a session at Deep Griha Academy on Saturday, September 23 to teach students English. Volunteers from the Unicorn house crafted interesting games to explain concepts to the children in an easy and fun manner. They used Word Maze to help build basic vocabulary, and Hangman to improve word building and spelling. Jumbled sentences were also employed to introduce the children to homophones. The session was very successful, with both students and volunteers enjoying themselves while refining basic concepts. Extentia plans more such workshops in the future.

On October 14, Extentia’s Unicorn house organized a Diwali art and craft workshop at Deep Griha Academy, Tadiwala. The 2-hour workshop began with volunteers discussing the importance of celebrating Diwali, specifically the role it played during the freedom struggle. There was a storytelling session where the students learned about the origin of Diwali through the Ramayan. Forty children attended the session and spoke about the various activities they perform at home and school during the festival. The workshop included art, drawing, and music sessions. The students also crafted various lanterns and greetings to take home.

On October 6, the Poveda Foundation organized a Diwali sale at Extentia, with items ranging from handmade mud lamps, bags, lanterns, jute bells, quilts and magnets on display. The Poveda Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to impact the education of children from low-income communities. They work with over 125 teachers from 13 schools, to reach a large number of children and improve their education quality. The amount raised from the sale of these goods will help the foundation better serve the community. Extentian’s bought a number of items, contributing towards the education of the underprivileged and making this Diwali special for the children of the Poveda foundation.

Recently a group of Extentians visited Jeevraksha. This shelter was started by the late Lila Parulekar, who rescued, treated, and took in hundreds of street animals. The activity began with warm greetings from four-legged friends. Then Noor Bhaiya, a representative of Jeevraksha, gave Extentians a tour of the premises. The volunteers spent a few hours with the animals, feeding and playing with them. The visit included activities like clean up of the cages and the surrounding area. Extentia also donated old blankets, clothes, and newspapers to the Jeevraksha shelter.

Extentia recently conducted two workshops for the students of Friends of Children (FoC). The first workshop took place at Sangli for the second and third-year college students on ‘Adaptation and Unconscious Bias’. The volunteers emphasized the impact of unconscious bias in our day-to-day life. The group also specified the need to adapt to new situations and illustrated this through various examples and instances. The second was held at Narayangaon for third-year students on ‘Handling Transitions’. The session spoke about several changes and challenges that students will encounter as they move from college to the corporate world. The students were appreciative and welcomed the information.

The annual Diwali sale hosted by the Poveda Foundation returned to Extentia on Friday, October 26. This non-profit organization is on a mission to impact the education of children from low-income communities. The items on sale this year ranged from mud tea light holders, bags, glass candles, trinket holders, coffee mugs, and pen stands. Poveda works with over 125 teachers from 13 schools, to reach a large number of children and improve their education quality the funds raised from the sale will go towards the improvement of the community. Extentians bought a number of items to help make Diwali special for the children of the Poveda foundation.
